Laura

I’m Laura Parquette. I’m the resort’s Brand and Communications Manager and have worked at Snowshoe for 3 years. I’m a native of Boston and never imagined I’d be living in West Virginia and loving it so much. I started at the resort right out of college in June 07. I graduated from Syracuse University and via an internship connection found myself accepting a PR job at Snowshoe. I grew up skiing in New England, but never had a huge passion for the sport. My dad is an incredible skier and has been all over the world—he even took a semester off from college and backpacked through Switzerland, skiing the Alps—but I just never got into it like he was. A knee injury in high school ended my skiing career and I wasn’t too bummed about it at the time. When I accepted the job here I hadn’t been on snow in more than 5 years, but I quickly decided that I wasn’t going to live and work at a resort and not take advantage of the slopes. So I switch to a snowboard and haven’t looked back. I’ve become friends with some of the best riders on the hill, and they push me every day to improve my skills. I still consider myself a “talented beginner”, but I love the sport and it’s truly become something I can’t see myself not doing. I have a new “whip” this year and I can’t wait for Opening Day!

Off the hill my time is currently consumed by my 3 month old golden retriever puppy, Fenway, who’s becoming a great jogging and hiking partner. I’m a huge sports fan and especially love the Red Sox. I say I love to travel, although I really haven’t done enough of it. When I can, I often sneak up to D.C. to see friends and get a little taste of the city. My family is still in Boston and I only get home about once a year, but that makes it special every time I visit. The highlight of my career thus far has been a trip last year to the Olympics. I worked for a week with the Whistler Blackcomb PR team and it was amazing! If you EVER have the chance to go to the Games, DO IT! It’s an amazing event with people from all over the world and just the most incredible energy and excitement.

I’m excited to see where this blog can go, and I look forward to sharing stories and insights with you. I hope I’ll even get to meet—and make some turns—with some of you this winter! I’m up on the mountain by about 6am every morning doing our daily snow report, so let me know if you’re an early riser and want to meet for coffee!
