If you’re anything like me, this time of year seems to be all about the weather. Don’t get me wrong, I like fall; having grown up in New England, this time of year always means beautiful foliage, football, apple picking and Thanksgiving—all things I LOVE. But now that I’m an avid winter sports participant, I just can’t wait for fall to be over. I still love the leaves, I loved taking my boyfriend and new puppy apple picking for the first time and I love being able to go for a run in a vest and a beanie, but I just want it to SNOW, like now…PLEASE?
It was exciting when we got our first flakes of the season so early this year, but now I seem to go mad checking National Weather Service every 20 minutes. Why isn’t there snow in the forecast? Is it cold enough to make snow? Why is it raining? Ahh, 40 degrees, GO AWAY! Some of this angst comes from my personal desire to get on my board, but let’s be honest, snow also means my job is a lot easier. It’s tough during these fall months to answer endless questions about snow and Opening Day when I don’t have a definite answer. I don’t mind the questions, I just hate the not having the answers! I wish I could accurately predict the weather long-range, and not just because I’d probably be very rich. I wish I really could tell everyone that we’ll be open no matter what on Nov 24th, or that January 10th is going to be the best day of the season, or that yes, your family vacation in early March will be snow-filled and wonderful, BOOK NOW!
I really respect meteorologists for even attempting to answer these questions, knowing full well they don’t really know—and I’m sure they get these types of questions WAY more than I do (sorry!). But really, is there a more frustrating constant in life than the weather, especially when you have a job/hobby/plans that are so affected by it?!!? As of right now, I’m actually fairly comfortable with our forecast—cold and snow moving in for the end of the week—but I know that could change in the next hour or so…speaking of which, I think it’s time for me to check that forecast again, I mean, it has been about 15 minutes!
Think Snow!
